Shiloh United Church of Christ
Children and Youth
Nursery - During the 10:30 worship service, and seasonal evening services, we provide a cheerful, well-equipped nursery staffed each week by one adult caregiver and one teen helper. Your child is welcome to visit and explore, and stay with us as soon as he or she feels comfortable. Stay for as long as you like, and peek in the window any time to see how things are going. Child care is also available during the Sunday School hour.
Lullaby Room - Some babies and toddlers do fine in church, and many parents prefer to keep their children with them. Another option is the "lullaby room" off the rear of the sanctuary, where you will find a rocking chair, changing facilities, crib, toys, and a closed circuit T.V. to allow you to view the service.
La Leche League, the international breastfeeding support group, meets monthly at Shiloh. For further information, visit the La Leche League website, or call Ginny Wilkinson at 275-1742.
Children and Youth in Church - We encourage children age four and older to worship with their family, and some younger children prefer this also. Children's Worship Bulletins are available from the ushers, as are Worship Packets which may include crayons and coloring pictures or small toys with focus on learning about worship.
Shiloh's children enjoy participating in the worship service in many ways: greeting visitors, lighting the candles, collecting the offering, reading scripture, singing and ringing the chimes, serving refreshments and doing an annual Christmas pageant.
As youth mature, they may continue with some of these same roles, while adding more responsibilities such as leading music and worship.
Music - Children from about age 3 through 3rd grade start off Sunday mornings together during the school year at 9:15 with lively songs that help them worship, belong and learn God's word. Older children may join the chime choir. Both groups share their music with the congregation several times a year. For more information about our music ministry, see the Worship page.

Sunday School for All Ages - At 9:15 each Sunday morning during the school year, the children meet together (see above), then go to their classrooms. We teach children about God's love in Jesus Christ, as revealed to us in the scriptures, and by the Holy Spirit alive in us. Emphasis is on sharing that love and joyfully serving the wider community. Learning by doing is an important component, especially for the younger children. Teen classes start at 9:15. Topics vary, looking at real-life issues from a Christian perspective. For adult classes, see our Ministries page.

Confirmation Class - Shiloh offers a two-year course for 7th and 8th graders, taught by Pastor Cope, as preparation for youth to become adult members of the church.
Hartman Center, our conference's beautiful camp and conference center, is a great place for summer camp and retreats. Many of Shiloh's youth and adults enjoy trips to Hartman Center. For details and recent pictures, see our Hartman Center page.

Youth Activities - For upcoming activities, check our Youth Page. Many of their favorite activities are those where people of all ages share, such as the spaghetti supper and talent show, hayride and campfire, retreats, or Christmas caroling for the elderly. For all youth, anything is more fun if they get there by the church bus.
Other activities are mainly for youth, with adult participation as appropriate. The older elementary youth went on bike excursions last spring, have enjoyed hiking, roller skating, service projects
Middle school and High school youth especially enjoy lock-ins and concerts, and participate in service projects listed on the Outreach page. They also assist with children's programs such as vacation Bible school, and assist in the nursery.

Vacation Bible School - is a popular summer activity. In addition to worship, Bible study, music, crafts, snacks and recreation, children bring a daily offering to support Heifer Project International.
Our Children's Library is located at the end of the long education hall. Age-appropriate books, tapes and videos are available for children to borrow.
